26×26 – D is for David Bowie
Today’s album is Hunky Dory by David Bowie
Hello all. Hope you’re enjoying this 26×26 mini-project as much as I am!
Now, I’m not an obsessive Bowie geek like some people are, so I won’t be filling you up with interesting facts and trivia about Bowie or this album! I am however a fan of great music, and this album (along with most of Bowie’s albums), is great music!
The album gets underway with ‘Changes’, one of Bowie’s finest singles – a good start. There’s a couple of other hit singles – ‘Oh! You Pretty Things’, and the majestic ‘Life On Mars?’ Thanks to the BBC drama department, there’s been a renewed interest in the latter track.
There’s a couple of rather unusual ‘tribute’ tracks, the kooky ‘Andy Warhol’ and ‘Song For Bob Dylan’.
‘Queen Bitch’ rocks like a err, bitch.
All the Bowie hallmarks are present on this album, and there’s definitely signs of what was to follow.
Great production skills from the man himself, alongside Mick Ronson tearing up the six-string like only Mick Ronson could. There’s even an appearance from Rick Wakeman!
Great album, very easy to listen to for the most part, with a few ‘interesting’ moments thrown in to keep your ears on their toes
Standout track – Life On Mars? An anthem, I think.
Other ‘D’s who didn’t quite make it: Dirty Pretty Things, Dizzee Rascal
